Modders are working on making Elden Ring's Raytracing more attractive

Elden Ring's power-intensive ray tracing mode encourages modders to develop an extremely important plugin that can make running much easier.

The Elden Ring's ray tracing implementation may not be the best example of the feature on the market, but it's still a neat visual update for players with powerful PCs, and modders may soon have a way to make it viable on lower-end machines. In most cases, ray-tracing lighting and shadows rely heavily on AI-based sampling to preserve these effects, which is simply not available in FromSoftware's core RPG.

A prominent Elden Ring modder, PureDark, is now working on bringing Nvidia DLSS 3.0 to the game. According to Reddit user JordieJordanV6, who posted a screenshot from PureDark's Patreon page, the modder has already successfully modified DLSS 3.0 in the game. According to PureDark, there are currently issues with the generation of DLSS 3.0 intermediate frames, leading to significant interpolation issues and poor image quality. However, since the feature is working, there's a good chance the modder will launch it sometime soon.

Some may recognize PureDark as the modder behind the unofficial DLSS implementation of Skyrim a few months ago. In fact, PureDark's Patreon post specifically mentions that they're trying to get DLSS 3.0 working in Skyrim before resuming their efforts in Elden Ring to see if they can learn anything from about an enhancer from the way it works in relation to a completely different title.

While Elden Ring's ray tracing is disappointing when compared to implementations in Dying Light 2 and Metro: Exodus Enhanced Edition, still an interesting way to strengthen the visual "fidelity" of the game. Its biggest problem was that FromSoftware decided not to support any mainstream upsampler, leaving a huge opportunity on the table for modders like PureDark.

Of course there are problems with PureDark's DLSS mod. Apart from the fact that it is currently still under active development, using it means disabling all online features of Elden Ring. While some Elden Ring mods include multiplayer, they all ban players from the game's official servers or risk banning the player.

The Elden Ring is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
